Precision of Headwater Stream Permanence Estimates from a Monthly Water Balance Model in the Pacific Northwest, USA

چکیده
Stream permanence classifications (i.e., perennial, intermittent, ephemeral) are a primary consideration to determine stream regulatory status in the United States (U.S.) and an important indicator of environmental conditions biodiversity. However, at present, no models or products adequately describe surface water presence for determinations. We modified Thornthwaite monthly balance model (MWBM) with flow threshold parameter estimate evaluated model’s accuracy precision more than 1.3 million headwater reaches U.S. Pacific Northwest (PNW). were assigned one eight calibration groups by unsupervised classification based on sensitivity MWBM parameters. Suitable sets identified comparing modeled estimates observations (SWPO). Parameter accuracies > 65% considered suitable. The estimated high 40% reaches, poor 20% suitable reaches. Results highlight need increased SWPO collection improve assessment models. Additionally, implementation indicates potential process-based predict future development.

Biodiversity management approaches for stream–riparian areas: Perspectives for Pacific Northwest headwater forests, microclimates, and amphibians
Stream–riparian areas represent a nexus of biodiversity, with disproportionate numbers of species tied to and interacting within this key habitat. New research in Pacific Northwest headwater forests, especially the characterization of microclimates and amphibian distributions, is expanding our perspective of riparian zones, and suggests the need for alternative designs to manage stream–riparian...

chapter i provides an overview of structural linguistics and touches upon the saussurean dichotomies with the final goal of exploring their relevance to the stylistic studies of literature. to provide evidence for the singificance of the study, chapter ii deals with the controversial issue of linguistics and literature, and presents opposing views which, at the same time, have been central to t...

Trends in streamflow timing and volume in the Pacific Northwest United States have been attributed to increased temperatures, because trends in precipitation at lower-elevation stations were negligible. We demonstrate that observed streamflow declines are probably associated with declines in mountain precipitation, revealing previously unexplored differential trends. Lower-troposphere winter (N...
متن کاملAssessment of the Monthly Water Balance in an Arid Region Using TM Model and GIS (Case Study: Pishkouh Watershed, Iran)
Monthly discharge is one of the most important factors considered in designs and hydrological works. Some watersheds are not equipped with needed hydrometric equipment. In such a case average monthly discharge could be estimated from regional monthly water balance models of representative watersheds. In this study, Thornthwaite & Mather (TM) model were used in the Pishkouh watershed in arid cli...
متن کاملA Survey on Precision of Nested Water Level Data Derived From Delft3D Model
One of the troublesome aspects of numerical modeling is to determine open boundaries for a model and to make sure that the boundary conditions employed at the open boundaries are compatible with physical processes being simulated within the interior of the model domain. In this investigation the accuracy of the water level data derived from delft3D employing nesting procedure were studied. Thes...
